There is no such thing as Office 2006!
The latest version of Office prior to 2007 is Office 2003.
In Office 2007 there are quite substantial changes to the user interface. All the menus (File, Edit, View etc) have been replaced with floating toolbars which are supposed to be more intuitive to use.
The underlying way in which documnts are stored has also changed significantly - although this a technical change that is mostly invisible to the user. In Office 2007, the default file extension, for example, for Word is docx rather than doc - which reflects the fact it is saving the document using a different underlying file structure based on XML.
Is it worth upgrading? Well - if Office 2003 does all that you want it to, then the answer is almsot certainly ''no''. As with any new software product, the earliest releases do not always have all the bugs ironed out.

2007 is way better. I know because I have used the almost flawless beta.
Just another year older. I'd pass over it and wait a few years before throwing out my good computer and upgrading.
Lots, considering there wasn't an office 2006 :-P
