I bought the software and it is currently on this PC, but I am considering buying a laptop and was wondering if there are any legal reasons why I shouldn't do it.

no, you paid for it and your using it for personal use ...not putting it on a network for everyone to use or whatever.

It tells you in the EULA how many pc's a license is good for.
and microsoft owns the product you own the license
As long as it's your computer and you claim ownership, there's no big legal problem.
Strictly speaking, you bought a license for one machine. If you want to install the same copy of Office on another machine you are required to uninstall it from your PC.
Realistically speaking, if you bought the damn thing and the copy on your laptop will still be for personal use, you will not get in any serious trouble.
The most that will happen is that Microsoft will recognize the used CD-key in your laptop and refuse to give you any updates. Just keep in mind that if you install it on the laptop don't download any of the patches or service packs, as Microsoft has tools to bug you about buying a legitimate copy.
Well...if you're the one who's using it I guess that's legal, unless you were giving it to your friends to download. Still, don't take my word check with microsoft by calling their customer service.
