I tried to download it but I did not understand anything now the trial version is expired without ever realizing it was on my PC. What else can I do ?

Consider going into add/remove and completely taking MS Office completely out of your system, then download Open Office, which is free and compatible. You can also search for a download of Star Office from Sun Micro that is extremely cheap to purchase but works quite well.
