I can't install Microsoft Office to my computer?

My computer runs Windows XP home. Everytime I try to install the Office software, I get an error stating that I need to have Windows SP2. I tried downloading Windows SP2 from Microsoft updates but my computer can't seem to install it. Any suggestions or solutions would be great.

If you can't install Service Pack 2 from Windows Update, you can download and install the Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package (which is the same thing, it's just an executable download provided to network administrators to install on many systems at once). You can find it here:

...and this should work. However, if you receive any errors copying files during the installation, most likely your copy of Windows will be unstable afterwards. So, I suggest backing up your files before attempting to install.

Good luck.

In IE, go to tools - windows update. Make sure you install all the activeX controls that will popup. Install the updates it says, and restart your computer. Redo this process until there are no more updates to install (this will take a while and will require 3-4 restarts).
As long as XP home is installed on a computer that meets the system requirements, there's no reason you shouldnt be able to install service pack 2.
